The Call to Bless Our Community
Matthew 5:13-16
Main Idea: God calls Christians to interact with and engage their communities
or Christ.
The Threefold Call to Bless our Community:
1. We are called to be the salt that brings flavor, preservation, and healing
to our neighborhoods. v. 13
“Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who
takes refuge in him.” - Psalm 34:8 (NIV)
2. We are called to be a light in our communities. v. 14-15
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship
with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from
all sin.” – 1 John 1:7 (NIV)
3. We are called to glorify God in our community. v. 16
“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are
being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory,
which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” – 2 Corinthians 3:18
(NIV)
Action Points:
1. Get out of the salt-shaker and be salty.
2. Shine brightly.
Reflection Question:
In which areas of our communities is salt and light needed? How can we
be salt and light in these places and bring the flavor, preservation,
purification, warmth, and power of God to the people there?
