Everyone is a Gift - September 1, 2024

Sunday Sep 01, 2024
Welcome to today's sermon podcast! Inspired by the Apostle Paul's prayer in Ephesians 6:19, this sermon aims to bring the Word of God alive in your heart and aid your understanding of His divine plan for your life. Amen.
In today's episode, we kick off a new series titled "Gifted for More." Despite conventional advice against starting a new series on a holiday weekend, our speaker dives into this exciting journey, emphasizing that every individual is blessed with unique talents and abilities. This sermon encourages us to recognize that God has a grand plan for each of us, regardless of age or background.
Through a humorous anecdote about caricatures, the sermon explores how we often create exaggerated versions of God, which can distort our understanding of His true character. By examining Ephesians 2, the message highlights key characteristics of God—His love, mercy, grace, and kindness—and how these attributes should shape our relationships with Him, others, and ourselves.
We are reminded that we are God's masterpieces, created anew in Christ Jesus to do good works. The sermon calls us to recognize ourselves and others as gifts from God and challenges us to share our unique gifts with the world. It concludes with a reflection on the ultimate gift exchange—Christ's sacrifice—and an invitation to adjust our views of God, discover our spiritual gifts, and use them for His glory.
Join us as we embark on this transformative journey of understanding and embracing God's plan for our lives. May today's message inspire you to live out your divine purpose with confidence and joy.
Everyone Is a Gift
Ephesians 2:1–10
INTRODUCTIONS: Caricatures
MAIN IDEA: Our view of God shapes how we see ourselves and others.
CONFIDENCE IN GOD’S CHARACTER…
- Confidence in God’s character changes our relationship with God. (v. 4–9)
- Confidence in God’s character changes our response to others. (v. 1–3)
- Confidence in God’s character changes our relationship with ourselves. (v. 10)
THREE RESPONSES TO GOD’S CHARACTER:
- We recognize ourselves as gifts from God. (v. 5b–6)
- We realize others are gifts from God. (v. 1-3)
- We respond to God’s goodness and share our gifts. (v.7–10)
ACTION STEPS:
- Adjust your view of God's character
What adjustments do you need to make to the way you see and respond to the character of God?
- Identify lies about your identity and others
As people who are made in the Image of God, when we have a warped image of the character of God, it begins to create in us a warped self-image. Can you name lies that you may believe about your identity based on a wrong view of God’s character? What about lies that you believe about others?
- Discovering and use your unique gifts
Knowing that God has a plan and a purpose for each of our gifts, take time to discover your unique gifts and how to steward them. (Take your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment – Coming soon!)

When Donkeys Speak - July 21, 2024
Sunday Jul 21, 2024
Sunday Jul 21, 2024
Welcome to today's sermon podcast! Inspired by the Apostle Paul's prayer in Ephesians 6:19, our pastor aims to speak fearlessly about the mystery of the gospel. In this episode, we delve into a fascinating story from the book of Numbers, focusing on Balaam and his talking donkey.
Our sermon revisits memorable Sunday school stories and emphasizes the importance of aligning our personal desires with divine direction. Balaam's journey and his encounters with divine obstacles offer profound lessons about ignoring God's warnings and the consequences of following our own sinful paths.
As we explore Balaam's errors, we learn the significance of heeding divine guidance and avoiding the pitfalls of sin. This episode encourages us to seek God's will, recognize His interventions, and live a life free from the bondage of sin. Join us in understanding God's plan for our lives through this timeless biblical narrative.
With Pastor Mike Curry.
“When Donkeys Speak: Experiencing Divine Intervention”
Numbers 22:21-31
Main Idea: God intervenes in our lives, even through unlikely messengers.
I. Introduction: A cussword in Church?
II. Learning Lessons from Balaam’s Error
1. Pursuing Personal Desires Over Divine Direction v. 20-21
o Some rush headlong into impending doom! (Jude 11)
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to
death.” - Proverbs 14:12
o We must be eager to do God’s will (James 1:19-22)—listen to it and
practice it.
2. Ignoring Divine Warnings vs. 22, 31
o We must not be blind as we are warned about God’s punishment for
sin (Romans 6:23) and lack of knowledge leads to destruction (Hosea
4:6).
3. Frustrated by Divine Obstacles vs. 23, 25, 27
o Sometimes roadblocks are in place to keep us from falling into sin.
• Work keeps us from idle sins (1 Timothy 5:13-14),
• Isolation keeps us from peer pressure (1 Corinthians 15:33)
• Lack of extra money could prevent us from the casual use of
alcohol, etc.
o Obstacles in our life may redirect us.
4. Foolishness in Following Sin vs. 28-29
o Sin makes a mockery of us.
• Wine is a mocker (Proverbs 20:1).
• Sin desires to rule over us (Genesis 4:7; John 8:24).
• We often do what we know is wrong (Romans 7:11, 14-20).
• We fail to take the way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).
III. Conclusion
• May we recognize and respond to God’s interventions, even when they come
through unlikely messengers. Let’s commit to seeking His will above our own
and being attentive to His guidance.

Reflection Questions:
- “What ‘walls of Jericho’ do you currently face in your life—challenges that seem insurmountable? How can you seek God’s communication and trust His promise to overcome them?”
- “Reflect on a time when God led you to take an unconventional or unexpected step in obedience. What did you learn from that experience, and how did it impact your faith?”
- “Consider the promises God has given you for the future. How can you hold onto those promises and confidently move forward, even when circumstances appear difficult?”
