Matthew 11
We have been called to be
“Divine Image Bearers”
N.T. Wright
2
At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, because you’ve
hidden these things from the wise and
intelligent and have shown them to babies.
Indeed, Father, this brings you happiness.
Matthew 11:25-30
“My Father has handed all things over to me.
No one knows the Son except the Father. And
nobody knows the Father except the Son and
anyone to whom the Son wants to reveal him.
Matthew 11:25-30
“Come to me, all you who are
struggling hard and carrying heavy
loads, and I will give you rest. Put on
my yoke, and learn from me. I’m gentle
and humble. And you will find rest for
yourselves. My yoke is easy to bear,
and my burden is light.””
Matthew 11:25-30
The Supremacy of

The Touch of the Master’s Hand
Text: 2 Corinthians 5:11-21
Thesis: Mountain View has been a Church whose primary purpose
has been a “Ministry of Reconciliation”.
a
1. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
2 Corinthians 5:17
Notice the punctuation!
A. We believe Jesus can save “Anyone”!
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13
1. Jesus can save and transform the hardest and most vile person into “a new
creation”.
2. It is an opportunity for every person that comes to Christ to start anew!
“The old has gone”.
3. Through Jesus there is hope!
a. The reason Jesus came: Luke 19:10
b. The reason Jesus tarries: 2 Peter 3:8-9
2. “We are therefore Christ’s Ambassadors, as though God were making
His appeal through us.”
2 Corinthians 5:20
A. We share a strong conviction that Jesus can transform lives.
1. The People of Mountain View believe that Jesus has called us to a
“ministry of Reconciliation”.
“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and
gave us the ministry of reconciliation…”
2 Corinthians 5:18
B. Each one of us that have experienced this “Good News” know it works!
C. These past 34 years I have served alongside some great “Ambassadors for Christ!”
D. In each of the three decades of our ministry (1988-2022):
1st - The Growing Years
Question: How many remember when the verses on our walls today
were on banners in the old building on 2nd and Owyhee? These
describe our Ministry of Reconciliation.
2nd - The Building Years
Question: How many remember when we built this building and
moved into it in February of 2003? Watch and Listen to our vision for
the Ministry of Reconciliation.
3rd - The Thriving Years
Question: How many remember when we burned the Mountain View
Church mortgage that demonstrated our Ministry of Reconciliation?

What Nazarenes Believe the Bible Teaches about Healing
Text: James 5:13-18
Thesis: God has the power to heal supernaturally and through medical science.
a
1. It is God who does the work of healing.
A. We believe in “divine healing” not “faith healing”.
1. False teachers put the emphasis of healing more on the faith of the sick person.
2. Jesus said: “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as
small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to
there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:20
B. Not every person who prays to be healed will be healed on this side of heaven.
C. We believe at times God chooses to heal supernaturally and sometimes through a
physician or a combination of both.
1. God gives intellect and abilities to people for the purpose of healing.
2. Luke, the writer of the books of Luke and Acts, was a physician.
“Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings.”
Colossians 4:14
3. “In New Testament times ‘oil’ may have been a natural medicinal
treatment used in cooperation with prayer.”
BBC Volume 10, page 246
“We believe in the Bible doctrine of healing and urge our people
to seekto offer the prayer of faith for the healing of the sick. We also believe God
heals through the means of medical science.”
Article XIV - Divine Healing; Nazarene Manual
2. Sickness can be traced indirectly to sin and sometimes directly or both.
A. The sin of Adam brought physical, mental, emotional, relational, and
spiritual damage to all humans.
1. We are born into the world as damaged goods.
2. A sinful lifestyle can bring greater harm to all aspects of our lives, such as
addictions and many other dysfunctional behaviors.
3. The majority of sickness in the world is of no direct fault of anyone.
3. “The Prayer of a righteous man (person) is powerful and effective.”
(Vs. 16b)
A. “Righteous” meaning a “Born-Again” (John 3:16), Spirit-filled believer of Jesus
Christ.
B. Many Christians have power they are not aware of.
1. James is referring to Spirit filled laymen too, not just clergy.
2. So pray, pray, pray! “Prayer is the key to power”, meaning when we pray we release
the power of God.

The Be-Attitudes in Managing Wealth
Text: James 5:1-6
Thesis: God calls every Christian to manage the wealth he has given them and not to let wealth
control us.
a
1. Be - Generous to others… avoid selfish living!
A. Save but “Don’t hoard wealth.” (Vs. 3)
“Earn all you can, give all you can, save all you can.”
John Wesley
“When a man becomes a Christian, he becomes industrious, trustworthy and prosperous.
Now, if that man when he gets all he can and saves all he | can, does not give all he can, I have more hope for |
Judas Iscariot than for | that man!” |
John Wesley
B. Exercise a charitable heart. (See Luke 6:37-38)
“A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be
refreshed.”
Proverbs 11:25
“A greedy man brings trouble to his family.”
Proverbs 15:27
C. Selfish living is the opposite of Godliness.
“He who is kind to the poor lends to God.”
Proverbs 19:17
2. Be - Honest in obtaining money… avoid stealing!
3.
“Thou shalt not steal.”
Exodus 20:15
3. Be - Faithful to your employees… avoid withholding pay!
“Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is within your power to give.”
Proverbs 3:27
4. Be - Generous toward God… avoid loving money.
5.
A. Jesus said: “You cannot serve both God and money.”
See Matthew 6:19-24
B. The Apostle Paul states: “The Love of money is the root of all evil.”
1 Timothy 6:10
1. He did not say money was evil. It is only an economic tool.
C. The BIG question: “Not, how much of my money will I give to God, but, how much of
God’s money will I keep for myself?”
John Wesley

Trusting in the Lord with Your Whole Heart - June 5, 2022

Trusting in the Lord with Your Whole Heart
Text: James 4:13-17
Thesis: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called
according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
1. Do not be overconfident in self, or circumstances or other people.
* “Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and
make money.” James 4:13
A. Do not be afraid of life, but be careful.
B. Be careful in where you put your trust.
1. Jesus commands us not to build our life upon the sand of life. See Matthew 7:24-27
2. The “sand” of life includes the following popular and dangerous practices:
* The pursuit of money.
* “Do not wear yourself out to get rich…”
Proverbs 23:4
* Rushing into business deals.
* “My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, if you have struck hands in pledge for another…”
Proverbs 6:1-5
* Trusting unstable people.
* “… he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.” James 1:8
C. The wisest of people cannot predict the future.
* “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.” James 4:14
1. We cannot guarantee that we will even be alive tomorrow.
* “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” James 4:14b
2. Humans at best can only make an educated guess about tomorrow’s plans.
2. We can trust in God because he is “omniscient” (He knows all things).
* God knows the future:
* “For those God foreknew…” Romans 8:29
* God knows our thoughts:
* “Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.” Psalms 139:4
* God knows our lifestyle:
* “For a man’s ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all his paths.” Proverbs 5:21
* God knows the number of our days:
* “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalms 139:16
* God knows the date of Christ’s return:
* “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
Matthew 24:36
3. We must quit trying to convince God to come over to our side and bless our decisions.
A. Instead we must seek to know God and his will, and walk in it.
B. Instead you ought to say the following:
* “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone,
then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.” James 4:15-17
C. The predecessor of Moses learned this valuable lesson from an Angel. See Joshua 5:13-15
