The Apostle's Creed
“I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hades; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church universal, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.”

James 1:22-25
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do."

"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such a faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, "Go in peace; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
James 2:14-19
But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder."

"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through the psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. The Best Of Your Best
Text: Matthew 25:14-30
Thesis: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and
who correctly handles the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:14
1. God gives us good things!
*“The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its
harvest.”
Psalm 85:12
*“Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and
perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does
not change like shifting shadows..”
James 1:16-17
A. In Jesus’ parable, The Master distributed “talents”.
1. A Talent is not a skill or trade, but a weight, and the value was
determined by the type of precious metal being weighed.
2. Each one was given to their ability.
2. We are called to use the good gifts of God to the fullest extent.
*“Try not! Do or do not! There is no try.”
Yoda
A. The first and second servant each doubled their talent, while the third servant buried
his talent.
*“All of our God-given talents must be used for His glory and the good of humanity.”
Beacon Bible Commentary
3. We will give an account for what we have done with the good gifts of God.
*“Well done, good and faithful servant…”
Matthew 25:21 & 23
*“There are only two things that God requires of everyone - that he be good in character and
faithful in service.”
Beacon Bible Commentary
*“Always do your best. And everybody’s best is different. You can’t
always be the best, but you can always do your best.”
Janet Basu
A. Qui s’excuse, s’accuse - He who excuses himself accuses himself.
B. The master would have been happier if the servant had tried and failed than if the servant had
not tried at all!
1. The lazy servant’s only talent was taken and given to the one with
the most.
*“If you want any business done for you, you should ask a busy man to do it.”
Reverend W.J. Kennedy
*“Being ready for Christ’s coming involves more than playing it safe and doing little or nothing.
It demands the kind of service that produces results.” NIV Study Bible
*“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians
